SWING INTO SPRING FUNDRAISER
MARCH 1, 2008
Successful Spring Fundraiser!
We are excited to announce that our
Swing into Spring Fundraiser collected $20,645.00 for the
Fayette Care Clinic! We are so grateful for all of you who
supported us in this event. Those who attended had a
wonderful time eating, dancing, and being merry together for
a wonderful cause. Harold Seay & the Boogie Shoes delighted
us with great dancing music. The auction was a huge
success, as well as a lot of fun.
We especially wish to thank Glendalough
Manor and Gary Marullo for allowing us to borrow their
facilities and for providing the sumptuous feast. We are
grateful to all who were present at the gala, to all who
donated auction items, and all who bid on them. We are also
grateful to Bill MacDonald for being our fearless
auctioneer. Without all of you, this fundraiser would not
have been as successful.
Finally, thank you to Ginger Blackstone
who worked so tirelessly planning and preparing for this
event. We look forward to another wonderful event next
year!

Georgia Power Foundation
volunteers came in yesterday, January 21st 2008 on their
holiday, to help us prepare Medical education classes. The
top three diagnosis of our patients are diabetic,
hypertension, and depression. Our first class is planned to
start in February and scheduled as an 8 week class.
Fayette Care Clinic Board of
Directors would like to thank the volunteers for cleaning
out the basement area, taking donations to Clothes Less
Traveled, taking items no longer needed to the dump, moving
and changing out file cabinets, and painting. It was a
great day and all of our goals were accomplished.
Along with Georgia Power
volunteers, Fayette Day Break Rotary Club provided 5
volunteers that assisted with the painting. We thank all
who gave of their day to make our classes possible.

Memorial for Ed Eikenburg
Fayette Care Clinic lost a
wonderful friend and dedicated volunteer on September 16,
2007. Ed Eickenburg worked with us two days each week, on
preparing us to receive patients on Tuesday and the working
the reception desk to check patients in and out each
Wednesday.
Ed gave much of his time and
talent to the Fayette Care Clinic. But more than that, he
gave us his love and friendship. His smile and laughter
made everyone's day brighter. His pure spirit and genuine
love for others was an inspiration to all of us. We miss
him greatly. We have all felt the magnitude of our loss as
each week passes without him.
Ed, we love you and miss you.
But we know that you are safe in the arms of God and that
even now you are watching over us. Your friends at the

Care clinic a lifesaver
I am writing
this letter in hopes everyone will read it with eyes wide open.
I am a
newcomer here from Florida. I came divorced and alone with no
health care. I thank the good Lord every day for the Fayette
Care Clinic. I have diabetes along with other problems and
without their help and understanding I could not be here today.
They are the most caring people I have ever met, and I would
like everyone to know they are there to help. All the staff
goes above and beyond the call of duty.
God bless FCC.

The
Fayette CARE Clinic is a not-for-profit organization created
to provide primary medical and dental care to members of our
community who lack access to such services.
The Fayette
CARE Clinic relies solely on private and public donations. The
clinic is under the supervision of an experienced board of
directors, who provides management and financial expertise including
the allocation of funds. Skilled, licensed health care providers
volunteer their services toward a variety of medical needs. Doctors
oversee a qualified staff of nurses, medical assistants and student
physicians, while a skilled administrative staff handles medical
records, appointments, and office support
WHY
in FAYETTE COUNTY
While our community
continues to grow and prosper, there are many among us who, for
various reasons, are either left out of the healthcare system or
seem to simply fall through the cracks. Health care costs continue
to spiral, leaving many in our county either without medical
insurance or the ability to pay for needed medical procedures. Some
residents may have lost their jobs and their health care coverage in
the process. As part of greater Fayette County, we either can turn
our backs on those who are suffering from a lack of medical
attention or join together to minimize their illness and hardship.
Through our organized efforts, we can alleviate the silent suffering
of many and exemplify the caring community we are.
OUR PATIENTS
-
Must be
residents of Fayette County
-
Must be without
healthcare insurance and ineligible for Medicare, Medicaid or
other government-funded programs
-
Must be lacking
the financial resources to afford healthcare, due to job loss,
relocation, etc.
Donations
Needed!
Because we
depend on public and private donations, financial, equipment and
services gifts are vital to the success of the clinic. A 501(c)3
organization, the Fayette CARE Clinic is seeking the support
of all Fayette County. Already, our local health care community has
committed hours of volunteer medical and dental care to our
patients. Outpatient procedures such as laboratory tests and
radiology services, are being donated by Piedmont-Fayette Community
Hospital, while surgical and specialty services are being supported
by various community and hospital programs.
Give voice to
your compassion by helping meet the hidden health care needs within
Fayette County. The Fayette CARE Clinic is an opportunity
for you to help by committing time or talent, donating medical or
office equipment or contributing monetarily to this vital effort.
No matter the type, size, or amount of your gift, its benefit will
ripple throughout Fayette County and our community will be all the
stronger for it.

Free clinic will
improve many lives
Donna Soper – AJC Staff
Thursday, July 6, 2006
Fayette
Care Clinic held a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony last week
to officially launch the county's first free medical clinic.
The
clinic, in a 2,200-square-foot building at 128 Sumner Road, offers
primary medical and dental care to
Fayette
County residents who lack health insurance or access to
government-funded programs.
It has
one full-time employee along with several volunteers and physicians
who donate their services.
"Our
purpose is to fill the gap to reduce the health crisis by providing
preventive care," said Chuck Micallef, Fayette Care board member.
The
group's research shows that about 18 percent of Fayette's population
has no health insurance, Micallef said.
Fayette
Care, a nonprofit organization, has raised nearly $90,000 in
monetary donations, including a $25,000 grant from United Way, which
was presented at the dedication by Glenn Flake, the area director
for United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, and Arnold Martin, United
Way's Fayette County board chairman.
"Fayette Care Clinic will make a positive impact on low-income and
other at-risk people with their new program," Flake said.
He said
the clinic received the maximum funding allowed under United Way's
opportunity grant program.
"That
shows the support
United Way
has for this program," he said.
The
clinic, which includes a pharmacy that dispenses non-narcotic
medications, also has been supported by several in-kind donations.
Piedmont Fayette Hospital, one of the clinic's primary sponsors, for
example, has agreed to donate lab services.
"It is
a great service to the community," said Lisa Hedenstrom, Fayette
Care board member and director of nursing at Piedmont Fayette.
"Every community has people who don't have the resources for medical
care. Most are working people who don't have insurance."
Mary
Ann Cox, Fayette Care's executive director, said the seed for the
clinic was planted more than three years ago, when she read about a
similar clinic in Clayton County.
Cox,
who has worked at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in
Peachtree
City for more than 20 years, partnered with Dr. Betsy Horton, a
Fayetteville physician, and the two were the driving forces behind
the clinic's inception and development.
"This
is a tribute to the power of prayer and a dedication to servitude,"
Cox said.
Fayette
Care, which will continue to accept donations year-round, is
presently open from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays. Patients with
appointments are seen first. For information, call 770-487-4778, or
visit www.fayettecareclinic.com.
