About Us

The Fayette CARE Clinic is designed to help fill a gap in our health care delivery system.  Typically,  our patients are likely to delay medical care because they cannot afford to see a doctor, putting themselves at risk of a health crisis due to a lack of preventive care.  Many who do manage an  initial doctor visit are unable to afford needed medications or  follow-up visits to completely resolve the illness.

Facts about Fayette County  - Working without Health Care

Companies engaged in business in Georgia must provide employee benefits in the form of Unemployment Insurance, Workers’ Compensation, Social Security and Medicare but are not required by law to offer health care insurance, paid sick days, vacation or similar benefits.  Occupations in service-producing industries, such as retail trade, construction and hospitality, are particularly vulnerable to a lack of health care benefits, as are employees of most small businesses with less than 25 workers.

Our solitary hospital, Piedmont-Fayette Community Hospital, has become the source of primary care for much of our target group.  In fiscal year 2003, PFCH provided $4.5 million in uncompensated indigent and charity care.  Further, PFCH wrote off an additional $6.6 million in uncollected debt, where there was no income documentation to support the claim of indigent or charity care.   This  $11.1 million provided health care to 4,356 people, of which 261 were hospital admissions and 4,095 were outpatients, primarily treated through the hospital’s emergency room.

Approximately 10.34% of students enrolled in Fayette County Schools are eligible for free or reduced price meals – a direct indication of needed support
