Quality Medical Care

Quality medical care begins with skilled, experienced and caring professionals. A number of retired and actively practicing physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and others have expressed a high degree of interest in volunteering to serve in the Clinic. We expect there to be an adequate number of experienced professionals available to meet the Clinic’s needs on an ongoing basis.

Volunteer medical professionals will be screened and must have an exemplary record. Appropriate credentials and continuing education will be required.

The Volunteer Protection Act of 1997 provides certain protections to volunteers, not-for-profit organizations, and governmental entities in lawsuits based on the activities of volunteers, and the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) provides protection for uncompensated health professionals providing service through a free health clinic. Additionally appropriate but low cost malpractice insurance will be maintained.

Retired physicians, nurse practitioners and PA’s will be encouraged to volunteer for one- three-hour session per month. The organizers estimate that one to two volunteer pharmacists will be needed to support full operations.

The “Culture of Caring” is expected to enhance the healing and self-esteem of those served by the clinic. It is also the key to providing a positive experience and joy to those who serve in the clinic. The “Culture of Caring” is critical to maintaining long-term volunteer support.
